Welcome to the Yancey County Cal Ripken Baseball and Babe Ruth Softball website.

It is with heavy hearts that we offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Wade Tipton.  Mr. Tipton was the Mitchell County Parks and Recreation Director, he died Thursday night January 14th of an apparent heart attack. He collapsed on the court while refereeing a youth recreational basketball game at Bowman Middle School.  Tipton had a long career in recreation in Mitchell County and before that he was recreation director in Yancey County. His contribution to the lives of many children will be remembered forever. Wade Tipton leaves behind a wife Davinia, two children Kevin and Renee and seven grandchildren whom he adored.
